Unable To install And Start Factorio

OS Name/Version:
Windows 10

Product Name/Version:
AMP 1.9.0.4

Problem Description:
I am unable to start Factorio. After attempting to start the server I get the following error:
Could not complete action.
Application is not installed.
C:\AMPDatastore\Instances\Factorio01\factorio\427520\bin\x64\factorio.exe does not exist.

It also seems to be stuck on "updating" as well. I've left it for a long time, but it doesn't seem to complete.

Actions taken to resolve so far:
All I did was just create the instance and click start. Is there anything else I have to do or configure to get this to work?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hit update first.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the quick reply as usual!

I did try that: Fresh instance install, start instance, then "update". Unfortunately, it didn't work.

However, I think I see what the problem might be. When I looked at the steamapp logs I found the follow error:

Log Location: C:\AMPDatastore\Instances\Factorio01\factorio\logs\content_log.txt

Log Error:
[2019-11-24 19:26:43] Loaded 0 apps from install folder
"C:\AMPDatastore\Instances\Factorio01\factorio\steamapps\appmanifest*.acf".
[2019-11-24 19:26:49] Loaded 0 apps from install folder "c:\ampdatastore\instances\factorio01\factorio\427520\steamapps\appmanifest
*.acf".
[2019-11-24 19:26:49] Failed installing AppID 427520 (No subscription)

So just for kicks, I tried I tired using the steamapp cmdline to install Factorio using my own steam account and it worked. Unfortunately, when I started the game with AMP it doesn't show it's running, but it really is in the background. So, I guess I can't manually install it to fully work with AMP either, bummer.

I assume AMP is using the steamapp cmdline with the Login "anonymous" to download Factorio? Maybe that doesn't work anymore? When I tired anonymous via the cmdline I got the same "No subscription" error. I tried to see if there was another SteamID for a public dedicated server, but I couldn't find one.

Any thoughts on this?

Ah, there's a bug affecting the usual steam login prompt - workaround is to either:

  • Connect to the instance directly instead of going via ADS
  • Install the nightly build for both ADS and Factorio

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the suggestions!

I tried:

  • Connect to the instance directly instead of going via ADS
This did work with 1.9.0.4 mainline release
  • Install the nightly build for both ADS and Factorio
I pulled the nightly build, but that didn't work through ADS. Who knows, maybe I was doing something wrong.

Also, I just noticed 1.9.0.6 was released. I tried that and it seemed to work via ADS. I see how it works now. It looks like you are prompting for a my Steam credentials and not using anonymous like I previously thought.

Thanks again!

Well, I spoke too soon.

I was able to provide my Steam credentials and install Factorio via ADS. However, when I started Factorio the button just stayed on "Abort" and the console logs filled up with the follow garbage (see below). Oddly enough, the Factorio server was up and running and I could actually connect and play on it.

Tons of this in the console / logs: f J HC j

Oh and one other thing I noticed that was very minor. After I started one of my instances via ADS, I noticed that they don't turn green. I have to refresh the page to change the state so that the "manage" button becomes clickable. I did not see this behavior before I updated to 1.9.0.6. Just to make sure nothing was being cached I did a "CRTL+F5" and I told chrome to "Empty Cache and Hard Reload" via developer tools. Maybe a new bug?

Sorry to hit you with all of these things. I can't help it, I'm a software QA by profession, hehe.

Thanks

Which version of Factorio are you running? Also are you using any kind of reverse proxy?

pdxampuser posted this 26 November 2019

hmm... not sure how to find out which version of Factorio I'm running. I assume whatever version ADS chooses when I click the update/install button, that's how I installed it. As for the reverse proxy. No, I don't I have one running anywhere on my network. I'll see if I can dig up the version number maybe from the logs and post back shortly.

Thanks again Mike. I really do appreciate all the help :)

Hey just a quick update,

I was able to dig up what version was getting installed by the Factorio module.

Factorio 0.17.79 (build 47865, win64, steam)

Hope that helps !

Is the instance being run as a service?

pdxampuser posted this 27 November 2019

Nope, not installed as a service.
